In
conjunction with London Irish, Hanson, Marshalls of
Newbury and The RFU, Aldermaston RFC organised a fun day
with a rugby theme for local children of all ages on
Sunday 18th September. The day took place on the RecSoc
fields, and hosted a large Rugby Rampage inflatable
assault course, Sumo wrestling, kicking competitions,
skills and handling courses, a BBQ, and refreshments.
Popular on
the day, the rugby rampage competition involved teams of
4 youngsters in a relay, running through a large assualt
course with their ball, passing players and obstacles on
their way, practising and learning rugby skills in a fun
way. |

A major
aspect to the day was a very special appearance from
none other than London Irish mascot Digger the Dog.
Already a friend of many Aldermaston juniors, Digger
came along to participate in the fun, and come to the
Reccie to see some friends. After meeting all the
juniors and their parents, he went on to attempt the
rugby rampage, showing some of the skill he has picked
up from watching the Exiles in action every week!
Never
bored of having his photo taken with fans, Digger was
all over the pitch meeting London Irish fans young and
old. After an hour long visit, it was time to head back
to the kennel for a nosh and a drink at the MadStad!

Another well
supported game on the day, was the Sumo Suits wrestling
challenge. Open to the older kids, the would be sumo's
donned a heavily padded suit, and tried to ground their
opponent and get them out of the ring. The main event
was seeing Luke Flyn's flying tackle upon his opponent,
but still not managing to make him move off his feet. |

The event was
supported by Tadley Roundabout, who were represented on
the day by a small team of reporters to capture the
exploits and photograph the day in its glory.
Conveniently camped out next to the BBQ (they must have
done this sort of thing before...) they took hundreds of
shots for the community website |

The skills
courses were equally busy, with youngsters of all ages
racing their friends in the hope of being the fastest
around our specially designed course, testing all areas
of the non-contact game. The prize for the
luckiest, fastest and most stylish entrants was a
Gilbert training ball, kindly donated by the RFU in
support of the event. Everyone taking part in any game
on the day received a goody bag full of things from the
RFU and London Irish. |
